TODI MUSIC FEST
From Retro Rock to Russian Opera, Todi redefines tradition.
How does an entertainment event become a cherished tradition? When it consistently delivers quality performances. TodiMusicFest is today a highly anticipated summertime series in southeastern Virginia because it continues to wow audiences with a stimulating array of first class productions for the entire family.
Once again for the 2007 season, a grand opera will highlight TodiMusicFest. Eugene Onegin, a romantic Russian opera conducted by Maestro Walter Attanasi, will feature TodiMusicFest’s international “dream cast” and bring Tchaikovsky’s celebrated Russian opera to life with dancing, dueling, opulent scenery, lavish costumes, and lush music.
The Festival opens in Portsmouth on July 12 at the NTELOS Pavilion with the East Village Opera Company. This powerhouse five-piece rock band, string quartet, and two mesmerizing vocalists will electrify opera for the masses with hard-rocking arrangements of opera’s “greatest hits.”
Dance mavens will be delighted by the Hampton Roads debut of PAUL TAYLOR: TAYLOR 2, one America’s most exciting and celebrated modern dance companies, at Hampton University’s beautifully renovated Ogden Hall on July 28.
“Retro Opera” comes to Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts with the Hampton Roads premiere of Leonard Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti. Bernstein’s score combines the best of Broadway, jazz, and operatic styles in a poignant and witty commentary on suburban family life in the 50s.
And we’ve added more events in Chesapeake, from Bluegrass to Swing and Pops with the new “@ the Bagley Series!.”
As always, TodiMusicFest will have something for everyone, whether the preference is opera, jazz, bluegrass or dance. It’s a tradition worth starting or keeping. Enjoy!
