Tickets On Sale For TodiMusicFest’s Sixth Season
Festival To Premiere Romantic Russian Opera In Virginia
May 31, 2007, Portsmouth Single tickets are now on sale for TodiMusicFest 2007 (TMF), the 18-day cultural extravaganza headquartered in Old Towne Portsmouth. This year’s festival will span three weekends from July 12-29, featuring events in six Hampton Roads cities with an event for all fans, whether they prefer opera, rock, bluegrass or dance.
Once again, a grand opera will highlight TodiMusicFest. Eugene Onegin, a romantic Russian opera conducted by Maestro Walter Attanasi, will feature TodiMusicFest’s international “dream cast” and bring Tchaikovsky’s celebrated Russian opera to life with dancing, dueling, opulent scenery, lavish costumes, and lush music. Oksana Krovytska, star of Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre, will join Hampton Roads audience favorite, tenor Rodrick Dixon, and baritone Timothy Mix to round out the all-star cast. There will be two performances, both in Portsmouth’s acoustically-perfect Willett Hall, on July 27 and July 29.
Two Todi events will be at the NTELOS Pavilion in Portsmouth this year: East Village Opera Company on July 12 at 8:00 p.m. and Vince Gill and Amy Grant on July 22 at 7:00 p.m. At this festival opener, The East Village Opera Company’s five-piece rock band, string quartet and two mesmerizing vocalists will electrify opera for the masses with hard-rocking arrangements of opera’s “greatest hits.” Later in the festival, catch Vince Gill and Amy Grant perform their Country, Christian and Pop hits known around the world, along with The Del McCoury Band.
Dance mavens will be delighted by the Hampton Roads debut of PAUL TAYLOR: TAYLOR 2, one America’s most exciting and celebrated modern dance companies, at Hampton University’s beautifully renovated Ogden Hall on July 28.
“Retro Opera” comes to Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts with the Hampton Roads premiere of Leonard Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti. Bernstein’s score combines the best of Broadway, jazz, and operatic styles in a poignant and witty commentary on suburban family life in the 50s.
Todi is adding more events in Chesapeake, from Bluegrass to Swing and Pops with the new “@ the Bagley Series” and in Hampton with two performances at Ogden Hall.
